The effectiveness of Metformin lotion in the treatment of melasma

Abstract

Background: melasma is a form of acquired chronic symmetrical focal hypermelanosis that impacts areas exposed to the sun particulary in female cases. Metformin lotion is commonly being used to reduce melanin synthesis in patient of melasma by topical administration or using procedures as microneedling.

Objective: The aim of this study is to assess the safety & clinical efficiency of metformin lotion using microneedling in the management of melasma.
Patients & methods: This meta-analysis included 40 patients with melasma, they were all females, and their ages ranged between 18-50years. Three sessions of derma-pen were applied to the face each month, with a follow-up appointment scheduled three months following the last one.

Result: After the search & screening, one research met the inclusion criteria for our meta-analysis Results of meta-analysis shows According to mMASI after treatment of metformin lotion using microneedling is effective in treatment of melasma.

Conclusions: Melasma can be effectively treated by metformin lotion using microneedling.
